First show of the year!

(WARNING:  rather lengthy post, with few pictures… read at your own risk of boredom)

Today was the first show of the year, in Fredericksburg.. The year started off well! Smaller show, but who’s counting anyway 😉 Luna did great (Thank you Laurie for showing her), she did everything Laurie (the breeder) asked of her.  She won her open class and moved on to compete for Winners Bitch, and won that class too! This gave her another point (that makes 3, hey there is a lot of competition and I am NO pro). It’s a great way to go into the year, and really shows that she is a nice dog and has been trained pretty well if she can work well for Laurie too, even with me ringside holding two male dogs.  The judge seemed to like boys, so no girls took Breed but the Dynata gang took all 3 spots for breed.

There happened to be a CERF (I think) clinic there, so we got Luna and Katie’s (her full sister) eyes dilated and examined. Both were totally clear. So that was an added bonus. The dogs didn’t seem to be too bothered by the dilation, it is said that it’s not as bad as when we have ours done.

Then we stopped by our favorite treat/chew vendor, White Dog Bone, and grabbed a couple more treats for her, and some of our friends. Had a good chat with one of the employees about how the dog treat market is changing and companies are dropping very popular items for no good reason and changing how they produce things (but I will spare you those details, I did learn where the puffy rawhide comes from though). We picked up a couple cow ears, a nose, couple feet, and new knuckle bone (that will make a mess, but she will love it).

We also couldn’t resist the new collar vendor Laurie found, Mackenzie. (I have been SO good about not buying many collars for Luna, and 9 times out of 10 will talk myself out of it). She guarantees the collars for life and replace with no questions asked. They are ribbon covered nylon collars, with tons of different very pretty/cool/fun patterns. I have been on the lookout for a new purple or teal themed collar for Luna, but hadn’t been overly excited by most. But today I found one I really like at the last minute.. and everyone else loved it too. So I ordered it custom to be 3/4″ collar in medium and she is going to mail it to me free of charge because they didn’t have them in stock. And I shall get her to model it when it arrives.. it’s going to be the collar for her luney personality.

So I have no pictures from today as I didn’t bring my camera, and we left Laurie’s in the car and I had my hands full with two vizslas ringside.  Luna in my right hand and Sammy (#1) in my left, who btw is a very handsome boy.. it is a shame Luna and him are related.  There will be a show picture eventually but until then here are a couple snapshots from a show last summer. I love how she moves, she flies..

And a more season appropriate shot:

Don’t know what she was “fake pointing” here but made for a great shot. This was last winter.  Alright, we arE both exhausted.. so off to bed.. take care

Congratulations on your success in Fredericksburg! and what a lovely shot of Luna pointing – Phoenix “points” very regularly, but we never seems to be able to capture the moment on camera, certainly not as well as you have with Luna.

thanks! it was exciting.. hopefully this is a sign that we can finally close that chapter for a while.. our wallets sure would appreciate it. Glad you like the shot.. she is an observer by nature so she often stops and looks at things, but won’t hold it nearly as long if it’s moving.. she can be a challenge to capture for sure, but she’s good practice
