Another good day in the field..

(I think I’m going to rework this shot some, just wanted to get it up for tonight)

Alright.. so a quick summary of today.  Basically it was another good day for Luna (and all dogs involved really).  She got to go out first as she was being the calmest on the chain gang.  Dan did some work with her on whoa first in the field… throwing his hat around to see if she would break, basically to get her in the groove as it’s something that she has not had much practice in at all. Anyway she did great and didn’t fall for the hat trick.  So it was off to the planted bird.  She went out real well right away, all business.  Locked up on point real quick too..  The wind kept dieing off so she was pretty well on top of the bird. Dan made his way over and began to act like he was flushing.. she held steady.  As he got closer to it though she began to get into the kicks by crouching, ready to pounce, and pounce she did when the bird wouldn’t fly up on it’s own she took matters into her own hand and caught it.  We tried to stop her, as she wanted to keep chasing it down and grab it. Finally we managed to get her to leave it and were able to shoot it, but she was collared away from that bird due to her behavior.  Her next go out, she locked up solid on point, and it was much of the same.  The darn bird didn’t want fly yet again, and Luna took off after it when it began run.  Dan told me that she cut in front of it, and locked up on point and he was able to shoot it and she ran out and got it and brought it right back..  Maybe she was just wanting to help dan out all along, either way he was really happy with how she did the second time, as was I..  She’s  come a long way in 2 days already, can’t wait to see what she can do when we get a game planned mapped out. So that was pretty much today as far as the bird field was concerned.  She is starting to get over her nerves on the chain gang and is beginning to carry on with the rest of them on occasion and try and take off when she hears the whistle..

And that is that for now concerning Luna and the bird field.. in other news.. Chukar and Pigeons have no regard for your face or head when you are trying to catch them..  that probably didn’t help my headache either.. But, they got caught.. even if it took a while, and another pigeon lost it’s entire tail in the process.. It will get easier for us all I’m sure.

Still waiting for a Chukar recipe.. in the meantime, it’s high time to get to bed.
