Luna and her big mouth…

So some of you may have heard rumors of a little video I made of Luna, showing off her barking skills, well here it is.

She has always been a vocal dog, so I thought I would share her abilities with all of her fans.  Bear with me as this was the first video I have done with my new camera (well shared anyway).   I was trying to work on her barking quieter and more talking than her full out, head shaking bark.  We will keep working, I know she will get it as soon as I figure out a way to target that type of bark.  Anyone else worked on this before?  I’m all for ideas on how to target the quieter talking.  I would like to do the hand signal I use as well as the “shhhh” you hear me use.  But maybe that’s confusing her?

And here is a little blooper clip

She has this problem quite often when we are working on things.  I was using soft treats (chicken pieces) to avoid this problem.  I ended up helping her out in the end.  She probably didn’t appreciate the help as it involved me running my finger all through her lips and mouth trying to dislodge whatever piece of food was bugging her.  In the end I don’t know how we got it, or where it was but we were able to move on and record the video you saw above.

I hope you enjoy the videos, it’s something I hope to continue to do as time allows.  What tricks do your dogs know?

The second video is marked “private”, but the first video is great! Luna sure is a smart girl. It looks like Wyatt doesn’t quite know what to make of it though. Thunder is not a barker. Storm is the barker, but it is an alerting kind of bark. Aside from “give paw” ours don’t know any tricks.

Ooops, my bad. It’s not public, or should be. Luna is a smart girl, as I know your two are too, it’s just another way for me to exercise her brain. Good catch with Wyatt back in the corner. I have to crate him when I am trying to work Luna as he is oober nosey and gets in the way and then her work drive goes out the window as she tries to compete. Wyatt is not a barker either unless people come in. Luna on the other hand is vocal about anything she is allowed to get away with. But it’s also just her genes so there is not a whole lot I can do past a point but be understanding. I’m sure yours could learn more tricks if you felt a need for them, the Mr. doesn’t want me teaching a bunch of random tricks to his hunting dog lol. Dogs can’t learn tricks without being taught them 😉

Can’t help with advice, because George hardly ever barks. But I wish you good luck with the training. I know Luna’s a clever girl, and I’m sure she’ll learn what you want from her. Loud or not, she’s still gorgeous 😉

i got a good chuckle out of this. none of our bullies are ever vocal at all, so it’s still kind of a novelty to me to see a dog barking without the context of another animal to get it riled up 🙂
