Well this weekend was just not Luna’s weekend in the show ring. Seemed both judges were going mostly for size, which is fine everyone has their own preferences. Luna performed well and was said to be having fun.
As was evident by how much she wanted to eat the bait Amy had for her… apparently it tastes better when it comes from a Texan 😉 Followed by barks when she would begin to play with her.
Stacking like a pro too… I was not quite far enough to the right when I shot this so it’s not quite square but I had to move to the other side of the ring fast to even get this shot so I’m okay with that.
And moving like a dream. You can tell how in-sink these two are by how loose and relaxed the lead is. You can’t see it but the chain is actually slack, as the lead dangles over Amy’s hand. Anyone that has taken Luna around the ring knows that she may be small but she really can fly and cover some ground. To be able to control that and match eachother so well is quite a feat IMO. So well done Amy, and thank you again.
One last one because it’s my favorite. So though we did not come home with any points, it was an enjoyable morning anyhow. And to make everyone feel better we hit White Dog Bone company hard… They really should just open a store near here, we would keep them in business. We ended up getting some Vanilla cow ears, pig ears, a cow leg/foot for each, a hungry dog variety bag, and more half knuckles (not sure if they will have teeth left after they finish those). Oh and I got Wyatt this toy for his upcoming birthday. I have a feeling he is going to love it.
I hope everyone had nice weather and enjoyed their weekend too, more photos of other dogs from the show can be seen on my photo blog.
Oh and thank you to my friends that suggested I try WP in a new browser.. it appears to have fixed my linking problem. Thank you firefox.
This is the first time I’m seeing Luna in a show ring—what a classy lady she is. And, I have to say, it looks like Luna has switched to a different persona from the couch potato seen lounging in the header picture of this blog (LOL)! I think it’s great that Luna can adapt to various kinds of situations and environments 😀
P.s. I also have a feeling that Wyatt will love his hedgehog toy. Looking forward to some pictures of the birthday boy!
She cleans up well eh? She is a truly versatile dog. I’m glad you enjoyed the photos, I didn’t take many this time, kinda focused on action shots with her. the Mister keeps joking he is gonna go show wyatt, but I highly doubt he will. Technically he could, but he is in no way “standard” to the labs in the ring these days. And that’s fine with both of us, as they are all obese.
Well done, Luna, for being such a pro! It’s not always about winning and, since I don’t know anything about showing Vizslas, I can’t challenge the judge’s decision. However, I personally think Luna looks fabulous, she’s got the most beautiful lines, her movement looks fluid and she seems to have mastered the stacking. So well done, girl, and keep going. What I’m most pleased with is that she seems to enjoy herself in the ring, and I think that’s important.
As a plus, you didn’t go home empty-handed, did you? I bet your pups appreciate the goodies. x
Yep, the say she is easy to show. Being 3 now, and having shown her since she was 6 months, I would hope she knows what to do. I showed her for about a year or more, but was getting basically nowhere so I began to hang her over to the breeder and a handler or two. Luna is a small girl, but decently put together. Her tail set is a bit low, and she could use a touch more chest but outside of that she has a good neck, fantastic head and expression and moves beautifully. IMO, but what do I know lol. The judges wanted size this weekend which automatically kinda knocked her out of the running. But she does have fun, who wouldn’t if you’re getting hot dogs and flat rat toys? Not to mention the chews we brought home. Do you show your pup at all?
Nope, we don’t show him. We did consider it, since both his breeder and an experienced handler told us he had potential and could do well in the ring. But we weren’t that interested in that kind of activity at that point, we just wanted a pet. Now that he’s almost 3 years old, it’s a bit too late to start training him, and I’m not sure he’d enjoy the show ring anyway. We’d be more interested in lure coursing or hunting, to be honest, and we might look into these when we’ve got a bit more time. We are, however, thinking of taking him to a fun show, just to see what it’s like, but without the pressure.
there really is not a lot to learn. The hardest part is to stack and then to deal with distractions which older dogs can often handle better than younger. Luna is 3 now, and has really become competative due to finally maturing out of the rest of her puppy looks. There are many dogs over 3 years old that show. I say try out a fun match, you never know it can be another fun thing to do with him to mentally stimulate him. Do let me know if you begin lure coursing. I have wanted to do this with Luna, and someday will. Not to compete of course as they would not allow it, but I know she would totally be awesome at it. It has been hard to find an area close to try her. Wouldn’t that be a sight.
Wow more beautiful photos. Luna is stunning! I think Wyatt will indeed like that new toy!
Thank you, and I think he will too, as well as Luna but we’ll let him savor it before they start to play keep away with it.
We’ll definitely give a fun show a go and let you know how it goes. Will also let you know if we manage to try him on lure coursing. I’ve never seen a dog not enjoy it, and the speed at which they go is incredible. I think both Luna and George would be great at it, as their both very athletic. I agree with you, finding a coursing place that is close enough is the tricky part, but we’ll keep looking.
Beautiful pictures!
WOW she is a stunning girl – such flawless conformation and she looks like she moves like she is floating on air. And great photos, as always!
Watching my Becky’s littermate show this year is a learning experience for me. I have come to realize what one judge perfers in colour, another loves in head only to be fooled the third time round with size! Over time it does even out I guess. Your photos really show what a beautiful mover she is.
That is such a cute toy! I am sure Wyatt will love it. 🙂 That whole store sounds pretty awesome. Not that I need yet one more pet store on my normal tour, but I wish they’d move here!
Luna is so gorgeous in these photos. This may not have been her day but I am sure someone will notice her eventually.
